![]() ![]() This subject matter makes it worse for the situation between him and his family and his community. ![]() His everlasting dedication to his paintings sends Asher against his family and community, but it isnt just the act painting that has accomplished negativity apon their values, the subject matter Asher chooses makes it worse.Īsher chooses to paint nudes at a point in his life. Also, Ashers continuous devotion to his art turns him away from the service to the Rebbe and Russian Jews, leading to Ashers members of his family accepting it as their responsibility. His dedication to paintings distracts Asher from his Torah study, which the community sees as the proper way for a boy to spend his time, and that is defined by the episode in which he draws on a page of the Chumash. Ashers mother bluntly says, Painting is for goyim. Painting human figures is not a tradition among religious Jews. ![]() Asher confesses that he is a traitor, an apostate, a self-hater, an inflicter of shame upon his family, his friends, his people. So strong words are being written and spoken about me, myths are being generated. Asher states at the very beginning of the novel (p.3) As a matter of fact, observant Jews did not paint at all - in the way that I am painting. Ashers devotion to painting is at odds with the values of his family and community. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you have a kindle or kindle app, you can put a comment below if you would like to borrow the book. This book (and the series) is lendable in the kindle format. But I would not be surprised if there are future story arcs. ![]() It is open so that more books can be written later. The ending does not feel like the end of a series. But there is just enough vulnerability to make him likable and to make sure there is tension in the book. Percy does verge on the almost too perfect hero problem. ![]() I am not sure any of them could have been left out. But they make sense in sequence and make sense at the end of the book. While the battles individually are written well and do not drag, there are a lot of them one after another, after another. That makes sense since it is the final battle that the whole series has been moving toward. This book was much more battle focused than the others. Of course there is always a problem with his love life (since Hera cursed him). So when debates undertaking a dangerous task to prepare himself. He is going to have to save Olympus and defeat Kronos. Percy Jackson, in the last book of the series, is sure he is the one of the prophecy. On Friday I started my journey at 4am in Berlin to get my flight at 6:30am. I’ll try to put things into a chronological order and keep them short, because otherwise this will be pages of detailed cosplay and comics descriptions. Which meant she also had to deal with my overly excited behavior about basically everything, but especially the cosplay. I spent the friday and saturday with Hannah ( who was there all on her own like me. I could have gone to one in Germany, but I actually prefer to be in an English speaking context when it’s about comics and the opportunity for a meet up was just to tempting. I went there to meet other Earpers and to visit my first big Con. ![]() This is a roundup of all the fun things that were going on at MCM Comic Con in London. ![]() ![]() ![]() Three months after reading Night of the Dragon (the Shadow of the Fox finale), I needed a little more foxiness in my life, so this hit at just the right time. I had heard of the book before, and seen it in book stores, but had never gravitated toward it until Chloe from Books With Chloe talked about it. I do, however, watch and read tbrs for readathons to get new recommendations, and that’s how I found Wicked Fox by Kat Cho. I know that I don’t do well for time-specific reading challenges, so I don’t participate in them. ![]() Rebel that I am, I will not be contained to timelines for reading challenges. There’s a fun reading challenge going around the internet starting today called Koreadathon, the focus being on reading books by Korean authors and featuring Korean characters. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Make a donation by check to the Los Angeles Public Library and send it to: One of Oprah’s Best Books of the Year and a PEN/Hemingway award winner, Homegoing follows the parallel paths of these sisters and their descendants through eight generations: from the Gold Coast to the plantations of Mississippi, from the American Civil War to Jazz Age Harlem.Foundation members receive a variety of benefits with their membership.
