Not only do they have to fight the enemies that have come upon their shores, but they must also battle the demons within them to stand together or tear each other apart. Through a sudden catastrophe, peace is swiftly ripped from their daily lives. Her son Mamoru wants nothing more than to please his father and empire by behaving honorably and mastering the ancient warrior skills he was bred to have. Misaki married into this family and is discovering how much longer she can stand to live under the repression of her past and gender. The Sword of Kaigen is a standalone novel about the Matsuda family. My shelf is entirely filled with series, but I am so extremely pleased to have started again with this book. In fact, I do not remember the last time I read one.
